Talks are underway to create a Spider-Man musical with a libretto by Neil Jordan Oscar-winning screenwriter/director of The Crying Game, music by U2's Bono and the Edge and direction by Tony winner Julie Taymor currently represented on Broadway by The Lion King, according to Variety.
Spider-Man tells the story of Peter Parker, who develops super-strength and web-slinging ability after being bit by a radioactive arachnid. He uses his abilities to fight crime around Gotham.
Spider-Man began life as a Marvel Comic series and has since graced both the big and small screens. The impetus for this new stage version is likely the success of the two live-action Spider-Man films. Spider-Man 2 opened on June 30 and over the next six-days grossed an estimated $180.1 million, breaking all previous box office records.
The stage Spider-Man would be produced by Tony Adams, who produced the stage and film Victor/Victoria, and Marvel Comics.
